The Jets have been awarded CB Rashad Barksdale off waivers from the New York Giants.
Barksdale originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round selection (201st overall) by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2007 and was released on Sept. 1 2007. He signed with Kansas City the very next day and recorded nine total tackles in six games that season.
The native New Yorker was released by the Chiefs Aug. 30, 2008 and signed with the Giants two days later. He was waived by Big Blue five days ago.
UPDATE 6/26/09: Gang Green has claimed Mario Urrutia off waivers from the Cinncinnati Bengals. He was a seventh round draft pick in 2008 and spent the entire season on the Bengals practice squad.
He played college ball at Lousiville, where he tallied 130 receptions, 2, 271 yards and 16 touchdowns. Urrutia’s best year as a college receiver came in 2006 when he recorded 58 receptions, 973 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Side note: he’s 6′6″ 232 lbs.
Guess who else is just an inch shorter and the same weight: Plaxico Burress. I’m not saying Urrutia will be the #1 WR opening day. He has never played a regular season NFL snap. I just find it to be an interesting coincidence.
UPDATE 6/29/09: The claims just keep on coming. The Jets have claimed G Mike Fladell off waivers from the New York Giants. He signed with Big Blue last December as an undrafted RFA (rookie free agent). Fladell was waived five days ago. He spent his collegiate career at Rutgers, starting at left guard in 2006 and 2007.
UPDATE 7/1/09: Fladell has been waived due to a failed physical.
